The Union continues its major initiative of solidarity and organization of the struggle of migrant farm workers in Nea Manolada, maintaining a daily presence in its office at the village square.
At the same time, the wave of support for the migrant farm workers, who work and live under unacceptable conditions in the strawberry fields, intensifies.
On the afternoon of Thursday, May 29, the Mayor of Patras, Kostas Peletidis, visited them, expressing the support of the Municipal Authority of Patras for the association’s significant effort, to which they have also contributed, in order to practically support the thousands of persecuted migrant farm workers, many of whom lost even their few belongings in the fire at the shacks where they stayed in the village.
Visiting the Union’s office, where dozens of migrant workers gathered once again, the Mayor, along with unionists, spoke with many and expressed his support for the just demands submitted by the association to address the problems that arose after the fire, as well as overall to ensure their rights.
Furthermore, for yet another day, the distribution of food, drinking water, and clothing continued, while the union conducted new member registrations, a testament to the appreciation of its efforts by the migrant farm workers, who once again moved others by sharing strawberries with those who stand by them.
As in previous days, many discussions took place today, opening up conversations about the major problems they face, the difficulties they had in their home countries, and the situation they found in Greece and in the places where they work.
Many farm workers shook hands with their Greek colleagues, expressing their desire for a united struggle and fight against the problems they face.
The Union continues its tours to camps in the wider area.
